🛡️ Aran Shield — Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 25, 2026

Our commitment: We collect the absolute minimum data needed to operate, and nothing more.

Aran Shield is designed with privacy as its core principle. We do not track your browsing activity, do not sell any data, and do not use any third-party analytics in our extension.

1. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device using Chrome's local storage API. This data never leaves your computer unless explicitly stated:

2. Browsing Data

Aran Shield does not collect, read, store, or transmit any of your browsing data. This includes:

All ad blocking, tracker blocking, and fingerprint protection runs entirely on your device. Network requests are intercepted and blocked locally — they are never routed through our servers.

3. Subscription Data (Pro Users)

If you choose to subscribe to Aran Shield Pro, the following applies:

4. Filter List Downloads

The extension periodically downloads updated filter lists from the following public sources (Pro feature):

These are standard HTTPS requests to download text files. No personal data, browsing history, or identifying information is included in these requests. The only data sent is a standard HTTP GET request — the same as visiting any website.

5. Permissions Explained

Aran Shield requests the following browser permissions. Here is exactly what each one does:

PermissionWhy it's needed
"Read and change all your data on all websites"Required to block ads, trackers, and inject fingerprint protection scripts on web pages. We never read or store your actual page content or browsing data.
declarativeNetRequestChrome's built-in API for blocking network requests to ad and tracker domains.
storageSave your settings and preferences locally on your device.
tabsRead the current tab's URL to show per-site toggle status. We do not log or transmit visited URLs.
scriptingInject protection scripts (anti-fingerprinting, element picker) into web pages.
alarmsSchedule automatic filter list updates (Pro feature, every 24 hours).
contextMenusAdd "Block this element" and "Check privacy score" to the right-click menu.
webNavigationStrip tracking parameters from URLs and manage per-site protection.

6. Third-Party Services

Aran Shield uses only one third-party service:

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Mixpanel, Hotjar, or any other analytics, advertising, or tracking services in our extension or website.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties. Period.

8. Data Retention

All extension data is stored locally on your device and is automatically removed when you uninstall the extension. We do not retain any data on external servers. If you subscribe to Pro via Stripe, Stripe retains payment records according to their own data retention policies.

9. Children's Privacy

Aran Shield does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The extension does not require account creation and stores no personal information.

10. Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control:

11. Disclaimers

Privacy Estimate Feature: The privacy scoring feature provides an automated, approximate assessment of publicly observable elements on a web page (such as the number of third-party scripts, known tracker domains, cookies, and HTTPS usage). It does not constitute a comprehensive security audit, penetration test, or definitive judgment of a website's privacy practices. Scores are generated algorithmically and may not reflect a website's complete data handling practices, internal policies, or compliance status. Aran Shield makes no guarantees regarding the accuracy or completeness of privacy scores.

Anti-Fingerprinting: The fingerprint protection feature modifies certain browser API outputs (canvas, WebGL, audio) to reduce trackability. This may cause visual or functional differences on some websites. It does not guarantee complete anonymity or untrackability.

Hardware Protection: The hardware lockdown feature restricts web page access to certain device APIs (camera enumeration, battery status, Bluetooth, USB, Serial, HID). This may prevent legitimate functionality on some websites such as video conferencing, web-based hardware tools, or device management interfaces. Users can disable protection per-site using the per-site toggle.

Ad and Tracker Blocking: Aran Shield uses community-maintained filter lists and custom rules to block known advertising and tracking domains. Blocking effectiveness depends on the currency of filter lists and may not catch all ads or trackers. Some website functionality may be affected by blocking rules. Aran Shield is not responsible for content that is or is not blocked.

General: Aran Shield is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for any damages arising from the use of this software, including but not limited to website incompatibilities, missed blocking, or inaccurate privacy estimates. Use of Aran Shield is at the user's own risk.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be noted in the extension's changelog and on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
